The Purcell High School cross country team is back in action: On Thursday, August 30, the Purcell cross country team took on their first meet at their home course.

Overall, the boys placed third with 89 points; and the girls placed fifth with 127 points. Some Purcell runners medalled in the top 25.

Boys:

5th Kyle Ginn 10:59

6th Gavin Nation 11:04

18th Tanner Eikenberry 12:14

Girls:

7th Alicia Baker 9:19

21st Liz Caralampio 10:17

24th Emily Madden 10:22

We interviewed two members of the team to get their perspective on the sport itself. We asked Alicia Baker what she expects from this season and she responds with,

“Personally, I expect big things from this season being that next year is my last year and I want to make every day count.”

We also asked her what a typical practice day is like,

“A typical practice day consists of lots of running in the heat and lots of complaining.”

Gavin Nation gave his thoughts on why he runs cross country,

” I started running cross country my freshman year because my brother, Austin Nation, was running. I fell in love with the sport that year and have continued to run since then.”

The next cross country meet will take place at Tecumseh High School, on September 18th, at 4:45 p.m.
