Coach Coal Sharp is a new teacher this year at Purcell High School. He teaches 9th grade Oklahoma History. He also coaches both junior high and high school football. He works with the offense. This spring he will be coaching high school boys baseball. I got the opportunity to interview him this week and this is how it went.

Where were you before you came to Purcell? “Maysville.”

Do you say Mazzio’s with the letter A sounding like bat or awful?  “Bat.”

What would the students be surprised to find out about you? “I like to listen to oldies music.”

Are there any embarrassing teaching moments you’re willing to share? “I don’t have any.”

Why did you decide to become a teacher? “I had older brothers that taught and coached, and I followed in their footsteps and wanted to become a teacher/coach as well.”

What is your favorite and least favorite part of teaching? “Favorite – giving kids knowledge about the subject I teach. Least – grading papers.”

What is your favorite college football team? “OU Sooners.”
